July 23rd

Dr. Ezzat brought us to Aush Al Hana (translated as “The Nest of Happiness”), the oldest traditional restaurant in the city of Irbid, right near the University. After breakfast, we were picked up by our driver and taken to Adjouln, a fortress on a hill used by the Muslims during the crusades. ( see pictures below)

Then we went to a post-wedding lunch for the President’s cousins in the country side. Pictures were off limits for the women’s side, and Sam was escorted to the women’s tent. As a group we were proud that she managed that moment and was able to capture the experience. The men in our group met more than 600 people and indulged in a traditional dish called Mensif, a platter of rice and a lambs head in the middle. The meal was eaten by balling up rice and lamb meat in your hand mixed with Shurb, a specially prepared yogurt sauce, it was delicious. ( see pictures below)

We ended by meeting another relative of the President, for fresh pears, figs and grapes at his home. The day’s experience was pleasant and rich.
