July 20th

Finally we landed at five p.m. in Amman, Jordan. Our first stop was the currency exchange, where we traded our American dollars for Jordanin Dinars (JD). The rate was .72 JD’s for every American dollar. After receiving our visas, we met our Yarmouk University Public Relations Officer in Amman, Abrahim Alherish.

After getting into our bus, courtesy of YU, Abrahim generously invited us to his home to have some traditional Turkish coffee.

His hospitality caught us off guard, but was merely a glimpse into the nature of the Jordanian people and their warm hearted welcoming and generosity. We chatted with our driver, who tried his best to communicate with us even though he knew little English, while Matias was photographing some children excited to be in a picture.

After taking in the beautiful landscape on our hour ride, we arrived at YU Campus and were received by a welcoming committee of campus representatives. After being shown to our rooms (which were stocked with necessities) and freshening up, we were invited to a lavish dinner at a week old restaurant called Utopia. The president of the University, Dr. Sultan Abu Orabi and his son Saif, along with some vices and deans joined us for our feast.
